I want to start this post off by apologizing for my unannounced absence yesterday. Even when I’ve been sick, or tired from driving, or watching a Warriors game, I’ve managed to provide some quality content. The piece might be short, the jokes might be lame, but the thing is edited. And it’s published.
Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been fighting to stay afloat amidst a deep disturbance (aka my job). The two “Brief Weeks” sandwiched a fairly normal publication schedule during Thanksgiving week, and I thought that the stretch went well. I enjoyed tinkering with short, text-only posts, although even those were excruciating when I had been working on fundraising materials until well past midnight.
My hope was that work would slow down a bit this week, but it looks like there is no such luck. Tonight, I left in time to meet my friends for dinner and celebrate Nat’s new job (congrats, king!), but last night I got home after 2 am. As much as it pained me, I didn’t have it in me to write a post, in part because I was tired of the “brief” format. So I skipped it. Sue me.
I would like to believe that many of you rely on Inherited Wil as a crucial step in your morning ritual - part of a health, balanced breakfast.
However, the reality is that this schedule of daily weekday releases is likely more important to me than it is to all of you. I genuinely enjoy routine, and missing even a single post makes me nervous that I’m on the cusp of an excuse to miss another night, and another night. Before you know it, I’ve returned to life as just another nameless schmuck who spends his evenings watching basketball.1
All this is to say that we’re doing a bit of alternate programming. Here’s the schedule:
Monday - 3 Articles Worth Reading
Tuesday - BREAK
Wednesday - Entertaining Announcement Post (you are here)
Thursday - Pics from NYC!!
Friday - BREAK
Saturday Afternoon - UHC
In the spirit of “trying something different”, I’m calling my shot. Normally, Inherited Wil is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re gonna get,2 mostly because I don’t know what I’m writing until I sit down and crank it out (but that’s besides the point). This week, I have a topic in mind for Saturday, and I’m going to make sure that it comes out looking ~fierce~.
What inspired such determination? Well, I received a topic request, which is a first:
I wasn’t originally going to touch this one, mostly because of how popular the topic already is. Seems like everyone on Substack has something to say on this guy, from (correctly) characterizing him as a hunk to suggesting his anger was entirely misplaced, and I didn’t feel that I had much new to say.
However, after thinking it through, I have a few thoughts, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you all! Wouldn’t it be wild if research and preparation actually yielded a superior piece of writing?
P.S. I have felt truly thankful knowing that you all have my back as I work through a pretty objectively shitty period of time at work. Here’s hoping that we get back on track real soon (both at the office and at Inherited Wil) <3
Yes, I am still doing all of those things, but at least I can tell people I meet at parties about my blog. I’m sure they find it super duper interesting and not at all cringeworthy.
It’s also extremely original!
Bro is working those biglaw hours and STILL keeping up with the posts. We’re all proud and rooting for you. (Also, look ma I made it!)
